Key words:

Tetracyclines are broad-spectrum antibiotics very popular in treating peoples. They are also used in food producing animals for the treatment and prevention of diseases. The wide spread application of tetracyclines raises problem of their residues in meat or milk intended for human consumption. Simple but reliable methods are required for they monitoring. The most important members of this antibiotic class are: tetracycline, doxycycline, oxytetracycline and chlortetracycline. The paper presents separation of the above mentioned four antibiotics by normal-phase TLC. Different mobile phase are tested and the infuence of the impregnation and activation of the chromatographic plates is discussed.
