Teaching Division:

Inorganic and Analytical Chemistry

Educational and
professional goals:

After completion of this course student should know basic concepts of quantitative instrumental analysis, be able to describe and explain operation of common analytical apparatus (pH-meter, spectrometer, chromatograph) as well as perform simple analytical measurements (determinations) using these methods/instruments.

Course description:

The laboratory experiments demonstrate common instrumental techniques of quantitative analytical chemistry. Students use various methods such as UV-Vis spectrometry, atomic absorption spectrometry; various electrochemical techniques (potentiometry with ion selective electrodes, voltammetry, polarography), as well as separation techniques (gas chromatography or HLPC). In the course of each exercise the analyses of real samples (waters, alloys, food etc) are performed.

Required background:

Fundamentals of Analytical Chemistry (Lecture and Laboratory)

Form of assessment:

Tests and reports for each experiment.
