Educational and
professional goals:

Students will acquire basic knowledge about structures and properties of biologically active compounds. They will also develop skills in techniques which are generally used in biochemistry.

Course description:

The main subjects of experiments are basically related to biologically active compounds: proteins, enzymes, nucleic acids, carbohydrates and lipids. During the course students will develop skills in using different techniques which are generally employed in biochemical laboratories for isolation of organic compounds from natural sources, exploration their chemical properties, qualitative and quantitative analysis. Exemplary exercises: Fractionation and quantitation of proteins from milk; Starch and glycogen: isolation and exploration of chemical properties; Determination of amylase activity.

Primary level A contain elements which are selected from the list shown above.
