Theoretical Chemistry and Crystallography

Course goals:

Learning of practical knowledge of geometrical crystallography and, in particular, point and space group symmetry.

Course description:

Lectures are focused on definition of the crystalline state, introduction of the most important crystallographic notions such as stereographic and cyclographic projections, point group symmetry, Laue groups, translational symmetry, crystal systems, space groups, interpretation of space groups in the International Tables for Crystallography, Miller indices, Bravais networks, close and the closest packing of spheres, antysymmetry, reciprocal lattice, symmetry of the reciprocal lattices, etc.
