Physical Chemistry

Educational and
professional goals:

Achievement of the knowledge necessary for understanding fundamentals of generation and interpretation of molecular spectra.

Course description:

Students learn about fundamental physical rules, quantities, units and conversion factors applied in analysis of molecular spectra. During the classes the students gain practical knowledge on vibrational, electronic and NMR spectra. They learn how to determine the values of intermolecular distances, forces between the atoms in the molecule (force constants), energy of dissociation, chemical shifts and coupling. The relation between isotope effect and vibrational spectra is also discussed.
