Teaching Division:

Theoretical Chemistry and Crystallography

Educational and
professional goals:

The main goal of this laboratory is to illustrate typical procedures encountered during the course of structural analysis, to learn how to use 4-circle diffractometer and crystallographic software, and to complete examples of typical structural X-ray analyses.

Course description:

This laboratory consists of practical exercises illustrating the content of the Crystallography II course. After introductory information on safety measures, students learn how to use an automatic diffractometer. Then they learn how to perform introductory measurements and full data collection, data reduction, how to solve crystal structures, refine them and present the final data. The course is completed with a small individual project.

Required background:

Crystallography II.

Form of assessment:

Report containing results of structural analysis.
