Theoretical Chemistry; MIBMiK, 4 Trojdena St. 02-093 Warsaw, Poland

Educational and
professional goals:

After finishing this lecture student should be able to describe factors influencing action of drugs on molecular level. To understand process of drug design and to choose proper methods based on accessible information about the system of drug and its molecular target.

Course description:

First part:

- Explanation of drug action on molecular targets: enzymes, receptors, nucleic
  acids.
- Description of particular elements of drug design process.
- Description of factors influencing reaching the molecular targets by drugs.

Second part:

Description of theoretical methods aided the process of drug design: QSAR, conformational analysis, simulation methods, searching of pharmacophores, methods based on fitting the ligand to receptor active site, CoMFA, pseudoreceptor methods.

During the lecture the examples of successful strategies in drug design process are provided.

Required background:

Recommended passing Biochemistry and/or Bioinformatics and/or Computer modelling.
