Educational and
professional goals:

After this course the student should get a fundamental knowledge of vibrational spectroscopic techniques used for probing the structure and organization of thin organic layers adsorbed on metal surfaces.

Course description:

Properties of metal surfaces. Scanning tunnelling microscopy (STM). Infrared absorption (including SEIRA: surface-enhanced infrared absorption), Raman scattering (including SERS: surface-enhanced Raman scattering), sum frequency generation (SFG), high resolution electron energy loss spectroscopy (HREELS) and inelastic electron tunnelling spectroscopy (IETS).

Required background:

Basic knowledge of spectroscopy.
