Educational and
professional goals:

Understanding of basic principles of physics, the skills in solving computational and experimental problems necessary for the student of Chemistry.

Course description:

Place and significance of physics in science development; physical models, theories and laws; physical quantities - four kinds of fundamental physical interactions, models of the Universe: from 10-16 to 1026 m; physical constants, international system of units; classical mechanics: kinematics, motion in three dimensions; vector calculus, elements of differential and integral calculus; Newton's principles of dynamics, inertial reference system, principles of conservation of momentum and angular momentum, elastic and inelastic collisions; central forces: gravity, electrostatics, Kepler's laws; rigid body dynamics; oscillations and waves: harmonic oscillator, forced oscillations, resonance, absorption and dispersion, longitudinal and transverse waves; normal vibrations of simple molecules; elements of nonclassical dynamics: relativistic and quantum mechanics;

Required background:

Knowledge of physics and mathematics at the level taught in the secondary schools.

Remarks:

Positive grade at physics classes is demanded for admission to the exam.
