Introduction to chemistry and English in chemistry.

Course description:

What is chemistry? Structure of atoms. Chemical bonds. Geometry of molecules. Acids and bases. Activity vs. concentration. Introduction to spectroscopy. Thermodynamics and kinetics of chemical reactions. Solubility and solutions. Properties of liquid, solid and gas phases. Chemical purity and purification. Red-ox reactions, batteries, corrosion. Significance of chemistry to biology and medicine. Review of properties of selected elements and compounds that have industrial and economical significance.

Required background:


High school level chemistry and physics. Basic knowledge of English.

Remarks:

The lecture delivers a combination of fundamental rules in chemistry and examples of chemical applications vital to men. Lecture offered in English.
