professional goals:


Knowledge of the chosen problems from the history of philosophy and the philosophy of nature.

Course description:

This lecture would present historical aspect of the chosen philosophical issues mainly concerning ontology and epistemology as, for example: What is the fundamental entity`s structure? What exists in real? What can rationally one doubt in? Do we know the external objects or only our impressions (phenomena)? Are we able to prove on scientific theories?
Subject matters of the discussions would concentrate on the theories of: Parmenides, Democritus, Plato, Aristotle, St. Augustine, Descartes, Leibniz, Kant, Hegel, Vienna Circle (Wiener Kreis), K. R. Popper, E. Husserl.
Discussions will be taken up.

Required background:


Previous philosophical knowledge is not necessary.

Form of assessment:


Attendance at lectures is obligatory.
