Educational and
professional goals:

To give an overview on the problems connected with industrial waste menagement: origin of industrial wastes, their classification, methods of waste minimization and utilization.

Course description:

Emission of pollutants by main branches of industry with particular attention to chemical industry: particle/dust and gaseous emissions; industrial effluents and industrial waste. Emission control techniques and equipment. Wastes or feedstock - two sides of chemical industry. Low-waste and waste-free technologies. Waste minimization programs. Underground waste dumping: waste disposal by deep-well injection. New waste treatment techniques. External and internal recycling. Waste treatment by plasma, metal concentrates production. Waste treatment by catalytic extraction-assisted separation. Clinical and other bio-hazardous wastes. Thermal treatment-waste combustion / incineration.

Required background:


Basic knowledge of inorganic chemistry, organic chemistry, physical chemistry.
