Educational and
professional goals:

Gaining a broad knowledge in properties of solids and their rationalization based on crystal structure theory. This course is designed for those students who plan to specialize in crystallography and solid state properties.

Course description:

The whole course consists of chemical and physical crystallography. In the first part the following problems will be presented and discussed: crystal structure classification, defects and crystallization procedures, intermolecular interactions in crystals and their structural background, polymorphism, photo- i thermochromism, structural aspects of supramolecular chemistry, experimental studies of electron density. The second part covers scalar, vector and tensor properties of crystals, thermal motion of atoms and molecules in crystals mechanical, electrical, optical diamagnetic. paramagnetic, ferromagnetic properties of crystals, electron conductivity, theromodynamics, and transport phenomena.
