Educational and
professional goals:

Students will get theoretical and practical knowledge about various representative techniques of purification of industrial gases, and liquid and solid wastes.

Course description:

Laboratory experiments to illustrate the following main methods of purification and utilization of industrial wastes: adsorption of sulfur dioxide and volatile organic compounds from industrial waste gases as a method of their purification; catalytic reduction of nitrogen oxides in industrial waste gases; sewage and industrial wastewater treatment and purification: stages of treatment, activated sludge and filter beds methods; water purification technologies: ion exchange, activated carbon adsorption, column filtration; ultrafiltration and other membrane methods; separation of water/organic mixtures; analysis of synthetic polymer combustion products; identification and treatment of polymer wastes; chemical recycling of polyethylene terephtalate (PET).

Required background:

Courses and laboratories in chemical technology, organic chemistry, inorganic chemistry and physical chemistry.

Form of assessment:


Tests and written reports.
