Teaching Division:

Chemical Technology

Educational and
professional goals:

Students who finish the course will be able to control the advanced material processing (preparation, isolation and purification) and will be able to perform the analysis of polymers and biomaterials with detailed interpretation of the results in the context of their industrial importance and material engineering aspects.

Course description:

During this practical course the students gain knowledge and increase their experience in laboratory techniques in the polymer chemistry and biomaterials engineering. In particular, students will do a synthesis of vinyl polymer, determine its molecular weight, identify functional groups, determine temperature and heat of phase transition and carry out the complete chemical (gas chromatography) and thermochemical (calorimetry) analysis of polymer decomposition. Students will be able to isolate and purify enzymes and control industrial bioprocess.
