Organic Chemistry

Educational and
professional goals:

The aim of this course is to familiarize students with various methods used during synthesis of labeled biologically active compounds and their application in organic chemistry, biochemistry and medicine.

Course description:

Synthesis of labelled biologically active compounds: alkanes and cycloalkanes, compounds with double bond, i.e., >C=C<, >C=O, >C=N-, etc.; halogen derivatives, carboxylic acids and their derivatives. Synthesis of compounds labelled with isotopes of iodine. Enzymatic and stereospecific synthesis of biologically active compounds labelled with deuterium, tritium, radiophosphorus, and isotopes of carbon. Application of labelled compounds to study the mechanism of organic and biochemical reactions. Positron Emission Tomography (PET) as a diagnostic method in nuclear medicine. Synthesis of compounds used in PET.
