To intensify and broaden the knowledge on thermochemistry.

Course description:

Heat flow principles - heat transport processes: conduction, convection, radiation. Thermochemistry subject - physical effects of chemical changes and methods of their measurements, dynamic calorymetry. Thermochemistry investigation methodology. Hess’s law, thermochemical equations and heat of reaction calculations. Kirchhof’s law. Heat of reaction under constant volume and pressure, heat of formation. The Haber-Born Cycle. Heat of neutralisation, solution and dilution, heat of ionic hydratation. Dynamic calorimetry (Differential Scanning Calorimetry, derivatograph). Molar heat of phase transitions: evaporation, fusion, sublimation. Additivity rule. Thermochemical characteristic of chemical bonds, heat of formation of atomic bonds, heat of hydrogenation, combustion and regrouping. Thermochemical measurements of biological active compounds.

Required background:


Completion of the basic courses (1st, 2nd, 3rd year).

Form of assessment:


Oral test or written examination.
