Educational and
professional goals:

Knowledge of methods and laboratory techniques used for mixture separation, identification and structure establishment of organic compounds.

Course description:

Identification of simple organic compounds with chemical, chromatographic and enzymatic methods. Use of chemical, chromatographic and UV/Vis spectroscopic methods for separating, determining purity and identification of components of mixtures of organic compounds, biological material and pharmaceuticals. Task: to develop an experiment basing on literature information. Use of spectroscopic data to establish structure of organic compounds (spectrum analysis).

Required background:

Organic chemistry basics.
Organic Chemistry I (lecture and laboratory).
