professional goals:

Skills in description of basic notions in polymer chemistry, relations between polymer structure, its physical characteristics and manufacturing processes, formation methods and daily use, recycling of polymer materials.

Course description:

Characteristics of polymer materials and polymer classification. Basic notions and parameters describing polymer properties: polymer, copolymer, molecular weight and molecular weight distribution, microstructure of polymer in solution and solid state, polymer and plastics. Relations between chemical structure of polymer and its properties in daily use. Polymerization mechanisms including phenolic, epoxy and unsaturated polyester resins. Polymer synthesis in industrial scale. Physicochemical and reological properties of polymers. Chemical and physical modifications of polymer properties. Reinforcing fillers for polymers (fibers, powders, polymers) .Manufacturing of polymers (thermoplastic and thermosetting polymers). Environmental pollution with polymers. Recycling of polymeric materials: energetic, chemical and thermal. Biodegradable polymers.
