Educational and
professional goals:

Practical learning of basic ideas of statistics, as well as crystallographic and literature databases.

Course description:

Lectures are focused on the basic ideas of statistics such as: brief history of statistics, exploratory parameters, random variables and their distributions, confidence intervals, testing of statistical hypotheses, ANOVA, regression analysis, correlation analysis, nonparametric methods and sequential methods. Then, four literature and crystallographic databases such as: Cambridge Structural Database, Inorganic Structural Database, Protein Data Bank and literature database from the Thompson Institute (former ICI in Philadelphia) are covered. At the end of the course each student completes his/her individual project and presents the final results in the form of oral presentation.

Sum of points from presentation of individual project and written exam.
