M.Sc. in Analytical Chemistry, University of Warsaw, Warsaw, Poland; June 1976.
Ph.D. in Analytical and Inorganic Chemistry, University of Warsaw, Warsaw, Poland, May 1984 Thesis: "Electrode Processes of Copper in Thiocyanate Solutions".
Habilitation in Interfacial Chemistry, University of Warsaw, Warsaw, Poland, July 1994, Thesis: Electroanalytical Studies of Molecular Systems Immobilized on Electrodes.
Prof. Renata Bilewicz received her PhD in 1984 in the group of Prof. Zenon Kublik, and habilitation in 1994 in the Department of Chemistry, University of Warsaw. In 1996 she obtained the position of Professor in Warsaw University and in 2000 the title of Professor.
In 1990 she was awarded 1 year Fellowship for Young Professors of Eastern Europe by the Swiss Government. PECO fellowship from Brussels (1993) and grant from Swiss National Foundation (1996) supported part of the research of her group in Poland. Her field of expertise is Supramolecular and Biomimetic Electrochemistry. She is especially interested in electron transfer processes in supramolecular and biomolecular assemblies, and in molecular and ion recognition at interfaces.
She studies electron transport in biological and biomimetic molecular systems from the viewpoint of their application in electrochemical sensors and biofuel cells. The sensing layers are usually molecular films prepared by the Langmuir-Blodgett and self-assembly procedures, Macrocyclic complexes are often used as active/receptor sites of the layers employed for electrocatalysis and electroanalysis. She is author or co-author of over 150 publications, 4 book chapters and several review papers.
During the last 15 years she spent ca. 4 years abroad - mainly in Switzerland, France and USA: New York State University at Buffalo, University of California at Berkeley and North Carolina State University in Raleigh, on either research associate or visiting Professor positions.
She is member of the Faculty Council in the Department of Chemistry, Warsaw University and member of Scientific Council of Physical Chemistry Institute of the Polish Academy of Sciences. She is member of American Chemical Society, Bioelectrochemical Society, International Society of Electrochemistry (ISE) and Polish Chemical Society (Secretary of Warsaw Branch (1990-94), Secretary of Polish Chemical Society 1994-97, Chairperson of Warsaw Branch 2000-03). co-chair of Bioelectrochemistry Division ISE (2003-2006), Advisory Board member of Electrochimica Acta.
