Course description:
Part 1. Electroactive polymer materials: synthesis and properties
October 22, 24, 26, 29 i 31, 2012; 10:00-12:00 Hall MSC, Pasteura 1 Faculty of Chemistry, University of Warsaw
  1. Concept of "electroactive materials". Relation to "mixed (electron-ion) conducting media".
  2. Redox active polymers: structure, synthesis, equilibrium properties, charge transport.
  3. Linear-chain conjugated polymers: chemical structure, history, principal families, chemical (redox), electrochemical and catalytic synthesis routes, characterization techniques, equilibrium properties, redox activity, transport processes, electronic structure and optical properties, applications.
  4. Other types of conjugated polymers: copolymers, ladder polymers, block co-polymers.
  5. Functionalized conjugated polymers: classification, pre- and post-functionalization synthesis routes, applications.
  6. Polymers with conjugated chains functionalized with metallocene complexes: examples, properties of free metallocene complexes, syntheses of polymers, characterization, applications.

Part 2: Porphyrin-containing electroactive polymer materials. Composite electroactive materials
January - March 2013
  1. Porphyrin-based conjugated polymers: porphines and porphyrins, coordination, redox and optical properties, functionalization, oligomers, catalytic and electrochemical synthesis routes,
  2. polyporphines of Mg, characterization, redox, optical, vibrational, electronic and structural properties, synthesis of free-base and metallated (with other coordinated cations) polyporphines, applications in electrocatalysis and supercapacitors.
  3. Composite materials combining conducting polymers with an inert phase: blends of conjugated and inert polymers, matrix-encapsulated polymers. Electroactive composite materials combining conjugated polymer and an inorganic phase.
  4. Synthesis routes to composite materials. Characterization techniques. Principal parameters. Specific features of nanocomposite materials. Composites of conjugated polymers with metal nanoparticles (Pd, Ag, Cu): synthesis routes and properties.
  5. Composites of polypyrrole with CuI and Prussian Blue: synthesis routes and properties. Applications of these composite materials
