The project is focused on designing and preparation of complex materials with desired properties for practical applications in medicine,
industry and electronics. The synthesis of new materials and therapeutic substances will be carried out in parallel with in-depth studies
of their structure, physicochemical properties and theoretical studies. New procedures will be elaborated for preparation of materials
for charge storage, catalysis, magnetic information storage, multiferroic materials, ecological energy sources and compounds exhibiting
strong nonlinear optical effects. Molecular interactions involved in recognition phenomena or non-covalent bonding will be investigated.
The project involves design, synthesis and optimizing of bioactive molecules and novel therapeutic substances. Studies of these compounds
will allow better understanding of the biomolecular interactions and factors affecting the efficiency of drugs. A group of PhD students
will be involved in molecular modeling of drug targets, including large biomacromolecular assemblies composed of a number of proteins,
nucleic acids, phospholipids and other molecules.
The experimental and computational resources available in our Department together with newly developed LBS - Laboratory of Structural Studies
and planned for the near future CENT - Scientific Park of the Ochota Campus are strong fundaments for establishing the training body right here
- in the Faculty of Chemistry, University of Warsaw.
